The Northern Ireland Fire Authority was formed in 1950 with the amalgamation of the Northern fire authority in Ballymena, the Western authority in Londonderry and the Southern authority in Portadown.

The three authorities had been formed in 1947 after the N.F.S. (N.I.) had been stood down. The first commander was George Murphy, previously the Fire Service Inspector for the Ministry of Home Affairs. 1.76 Scale.

Brand new tooling introduces another classic fire appliance to our Emergency Services line-up. The Dennis F8 belongs to the 1950s era at a time when the famous coachbuilder's vehicles dominated the fire emergency scene. Dennis has a history going back as far as the 1890s when the brothers started manufacturing bicycles. Today, it remains one of only a handful of manufacturers specialising in fire-fighting machinery. Our model, registered 42 CMX, would have made a striking sight speeding through London, with its silver bodywork and red front, which also incorporates the Dennis name in silver/black on the radiator grille.

The second release on the newly tooled Dennis F8 comes from the fire authority in Northern Ireland. Finished in red with the usual level of chromework to the body, added detail includes a blue and black beacon, two bells mounted on the roof, hose reels to the rear and decorative and highly colourful crest on the sides of the appliance, where the fine detail even includes the authority motto. Registered RZ 6927, its identity "The Ulster" is also printed on the offside front panel adjacent to the chrome finished radiator.

Of particular interest to fire emergency vehicle collectors in the southern hemisphere, we are pleased to introduce our latest Dennis F8 release in the bright red and silver livery as used by Christchurch Fire Board in New Zealand. The vehicle is registered DV 3445 and carries the Board’s name in black and gold on both side locker flaps, with CFB 18 printed behind the fire crew door. The door itself features the New Zealand Fire Service crest printed in red, silver and blue. A brand new introduction to the Oxford emergency series is the newly tooled AEC Mercury Turntable Ladder which dates from the 50s and 60s, when it was superseded by the Mercury TGM with Ergomatic cab. From its original launch in 1957 to the end of production in the late 1960s, nearly 200 AEC Mercury TLs were built, all, apart from one with full crew cabs. Over half of those manufactured came with Merryweather 100 ft ladders. Painted in silver grey and red with black chassis, this first release is registered 22 ML and contains a mass of artwork features.

Production Details:

Delivered in 1966 at a cost of £11,700 this was the second AEC Merryweather TL of Newcastle and Gateshead Joint Fire SERVICE. It was assigned from new to Newcastle and Gateshead headquarters fire station at Pilgrim Street in the city centre. In April, 1974 it became part of the new Tyne & Wear Metropolitan Fire Brigades fleet and was repainted red. Later operating in the reserve fleet it was withdrawn and sold in 1987. Colours were deep burgundy with vermillion trim and SILVER lining.

This third release on the AEC Mercury Turntable Ladder from the 1950-1960s era comes from Edinburgh. Between the launch of the Mercury TL in 1957 to the end of production in the late 1960s, almost 200 were built and over half of these came with extending Merryweather 100 ft ladders, as reproduced on this latest release, where they extend along the whole length of the appliance and beyond. Decorated in the traditional red and silver colour scheme and registered RFS 132, the model detail includes the Merryweather badge integrated into the radiator grille and the Merryweather wording in red and silver along the back beneath the number plate.

Only the second release on this newly tooled and highly detailed Bedford, the LCC London Fire Brigade crest adorns the sides of the cab and the high level of predominantly black and silver mask spraying on all sides is amazing.
