Le Mans 1966 was somewhat of a glory year for Ford. Their plan to defeat Ferrari at the famous race came to fruition when they flooded the field with no less than 13 cars! Given the attrition rate, only 15 of the 55 cars finished the race but in the top three positions... the only Ford GT40s left running! The Wire Corporation Team entered two cars, numbers 59 and 60, both unfortunately had to retire in 24th and 27th place.

There were 154 entries but only 70 finishers on the 412km asphalt rally route. 1986 Rallye Monte Carlo: Peugeot 205 T16 E2 - The 1986 drivers' championship was won by Peugeot's Juha Kankkunen, followed by two other "Flying Finns", Lancia's Markku Alén and Kankkunen's teammate Timo Salonen. Peugeot Talbot Sport's factory 205 T16s under Jean Todt were the most successful cars to compete in the last two years of the World Rally Championship's Group B era, winning the 1985 and 1986 Constructors' and Drivers' titles.
MG Metro 6R4 - British drivers Tony Pond, Jimmy McRae, David Llewillin and Malcolm Wilson all drove the MG Metro 6R4 Group B rally cars for the Austin Rover World Championship Team with varying successes in 1985 through to 1987. In 1986, after Group B rallying was removed from the FIA regulations, Peugeot used much of their experience developing the 205 T16 for the Paris-Dakar Rally and Pikes Peak Hillclimb. Their first attempt at Pikes Peak, also known as The Race to the Clouds, was in 1987 with the diminutive 205: the car that transformed Peugeot’s commercial fortunes after it was launched in 1983 and then went on to become a legend on the world rally stage thanks to the outlandish Group B T16 version. At Pikes Peak, the plucky Peugeot driven by Ari Vatanen fought valiantly against Audi but their Sport quattro won the event.

Scalextric Legends Lancia Stratos 1976 Rally Champions Twinpack. The Lancia Stratos HF (High Fidelity) was a hugely successful rally car in the mid-to-late 1970s. Conceived through the concept car, the Stratos Zero, designed by Bertone, the Lancia Stratos prototype was revealed at the 1971 Turin Motor Show, a year after Bertone himself had driven their concept car underneath the barrier at Lancia. Using the Dino V6 engine, made by Ferrari, Lancia carried out some extensive testing with the Stratos, racing the car in several events in 1972 and 73. With the engine phased out in 1974, production of the car ended in 1975 when approximately 492 had been made.

New Zealand in late December 1970 then at the NZ Grand Prix meeting a week later at Pukekohe, before Rorison made a successful offer for the orange Camaro. Seasoned racing driver Dennis ‘Marbles’ Marwood took the hot seat and was a front-runner for two seasons (1970-’72). Marwood leased the car from Rorison for a second season (1971-’72) finishing third in the title chase. Marwood’s swansong with the Camaro came with a great run at Warwick Farm at the second round of the Australia versus NZ big saloon test match in August 1972 with a fine second place. The Camaro then appeared in the 1973-’74 season, now in the hands of crowd favourite, Johnny Riley. During the cars restoration, Tony sanded down the old panels and the previous racing numbers were revealed — John Riley #50, Dennis Marwood #25 and 24 and Joe Chamberlain #2.

After qualifying in 1st Allan Moffat won his first Bathurst endurance race leading home Bruce McPhee in a one-two result for the Ford Works Team and their Ford Falcons. Race: 1978 Hardie-Ferodo 1000, Driver: Allan Moffat & Jacky Ickx, Pushing for more television time, the 1978 Hardie-Ferodo 1000 saw the introduction of the Hardies Heroes Top 10 runoff for pole position. Rain in the morning meant the track was damp during the first run, which was certainly reflected in the times. That was until Allan Moffat went out and, ignoring the puddles, ran a time six seconds faster than anyone else (while hitting 159 mph on Conrod Straight). Moffat was eventually pushed back to third and, unfortunately, the race didn’t go as planned. Allan was forced to retire on lap 81, allowing rival Peter Brock to take the victory.

Famously called “the most beautiful car ever made” by Enzo Ferrari, the Jaguar E-Type was originally unveiled at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show as a high performance and competitively priced sports car. The 1968 British Grand Prix was held at the Brands Hatch Circuit on 20th July. Both Hill’s and Oliver’s Lotus cars claimed the front row of the grid in qualifying along with Siffert, 4th on the grid, and much was expected.

Graham Hill, in his Team Lotus Type 49 retired with a broken half-shaft on lap 26. Later, on lap 46, Jackie Oliver retired the other Team Lotus Type 49 with transmission problems. The race was won by Jo Siffert in a Rob Walker-entered Team Lotus Type 49.

England's Tony Trimmer won the Shell British Formula Three Championship and E.R. Hall Trophy in 1970. He entered six Formula One World Championship Grand Prix during 1975 to 1978. The Scalextric car represents the 1978 British Grand Prix entry of Melchester Racing. Driving the McLaren M23, he finished a superb third in the rain-soaked 1978 BRDC International Trophy non-Championship race on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.
Although qualifying sessions had been dry, the 40 lap race was run in torrential rain, resulting in multiple accidents and drivers spinning off. The top step of the podium was taken by Keke Rosberg. Emerson Fittipaldi was second. That year Trimmer won the British Aurora F1 Championship.

The 1969 German Grand Prix was a Formula One race held at the Nürburgring with Formula Two cars also competing by invitation. It was the seventh round of the 1969 World Championship for Drivers. This was the last Formula One race at the Nürburgring before it was rebuilt and fitted with Armco barriers for the 1971 race.

Ecurie Bonnier was founded by Joakim Bonnier in 1969 for the purpose of entering the Formula 1 Championships with Lotus and McLaren. ‘Jo’ had enjoyed a long driving career since 1956 and had lots of experience with all the top teams as well as having run his own teams since 1966. It was in 1970 that Jo Bonnier drove a McLaren M7C under his own team in the US Grand Prix held at Watkins Glen. It was his first race behind the wheel of the McLaren M7C but he unfortunately had to retire from the race half way through due to a broken water pipe.

The notorious Nürburgring was the setting for round 7 of the 1969 Formula 1 season. Graham Hill and his Lotus 49 had a disappointing start to the season before arriving for round 7 and after struggling in qualifying, he managed to take his Lotus to 9th position on the grid. Eventually though, due to a series of crashes and retirements for Vic Elford, Piers Courage, Jochen Rindt and Denny Hulme (who all started ahead of him), Hill managed to finish the race in 4th position, 4 minutes behind race winner Jacky Ickx.

Team Gunston was a name used by Rhodesian racing driver John Love to enter his own cars in Formula One and sports car racing in South Africa between 1962 and 1975. He also entered cars under his own name, i.e. John Love. Commonly the vehicles were entered for Love himself, but he also provided cars for a number of other drivers during the period. In 1974 Team Gunston entered the South Africa GP held at Kyalami with drivers Ian Scheckter (Jody Scheckters elder brother) and Paddy Driver. After starting the race back in 22nd position Ian Scheckter managed to pull through the pack and after a few around him retired ended up finishing in 13th place.
