The 1968 British Grand Prix was held at the Brands Hatch Circuit on 20th July. Both Hill’s and Oliver’s Lotus cars claimed the front row of the grid in qualifying along with Siffert, 4th on the grid, and much was expected.

Graham Hill, in his Team Lotus Type 49 retired with a broken half-shaft on lap 26. Later, on lap 46, Jackie Oliver retired the other Team Lotus Type 49 with transmission problems. The race was won by Jo Siffert in a Rob Walker-entered Team Lotus Type 49.

José Froilán González made a notable mark in a brief career as a Formula One driver. Thereafter he raced a Formula One car in Britain only once again, in the 1956 Grand Prix at Silverstone as a guest appearance in a Vanwall.

England's Tony Trimmer won the Shell British Formula Three Championship and E.R. Hall Trophy in 1970. He entered six Formula One World Championship Grand Prix during 1975 to 1978. The Scalextric car represents the 1978 British Grand Prix entry of Melchester Racing. Driving the McLaren M23, he finished a superb third in the rain-soaked 1978 BRDC International Trophy non-Championship race on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.
Although qualifying sessions had been dry, the 40 lap race was run in torrential rain, resulting in multiple accidents and drivers spinning off. The top step of the podium was taken by Keke Rosberg. Emerson Fittipaldi was second. That year Trimmer won the British Aurora F1 Championship.

The 1969 German Grand Prix was a Formula One race held at the Nürburgring with Formula Two cars also competing by invitation. It was the seventh round of the 1969 World Championship for Drivers. Bruce McLaren, in his M7C-1 race-car, finished in an excellent 3rd place behind Jacky Ickx and Jackie Stewart. This was the last Formula One race at the Nürburgring before it was rebuilt and fitted with Armco barriers for the 1971 race.

Ecurie Bonnier was founded by Joakim Bonnier in 1969 for the purpose of entering the Formula 1 Championships with Lotus and McLaren. ‘Jo’ had enjoyed a long driving career since 1956 and had lots of experience with all the top teams as well as having run his own teams since 1966. It was in 1970 that Jo Bonnier drove a McLaren M7C under his own team in the US Grand Prix held at Watkins Glen. It was his first race behind the wheel of the McLaren M7C but he unfortunately had to retire from the race half way through due to a broken water pipe.

Held at Montjuich Circuit, the 1969 Spanish Grand Prix took place on 4th May and was the second round of the 1969 season. A famous race of high attrition and danger due to the rear wings of many of the drivers failing, causing several crashes. This led to the race being the end of the high wing era of Formula 1 racing. Jacky Ickx was in second position behind Stewart, but in the closing laps he suffered rear suspension failure and retired.

Driven by Jackie Stewart, the Tyrrell 003 debuted at the 1971 Spanish Grand Prix and won at the first attempt. Owners Ken Tyrrell and Jackie Stewart took advantage as Lotus and Ferrari struggled during 1971; they won six races with Stewart claiming his second World Championship. Designed by Derek Gardner, the project, codenamed "SP" which meant "Special Project", cost Tyrrell over £22,000 of his own money. The 6th Race of Champions, run to Formula One rules, was held in March 1971 at Brands Hatch circuit in Kent, UK. The race was run over 50 laps of the circuit. Three Team Lotus Ltd cars were entered against other manufacturers such as Williams, BRM, Tyrrell, Brabham, McLaren, March and Ferrari piloted by Stewart, Surtees, Hill, Gethin, Hulme, Fittipaldi, Peterson and others. Unfortunately, the relatively unknown Tony Trimmer was to enjoy only 5 laps before his Team Lotus car expired with a broken fuel pump.

The notorious Nürburgring was the setting for round 7 of the 1969 Formula 1 season. Graham Hill and his Lotus 49 had a disappointing start to the season before arriving for round 7 and after struggling in qualifying, he managed to take his Lotus to 9th position on the grid. Eventually though, due to a series of crashes and retirements for Vic Elford, Piers Courage, Jochen Rindt and Denny Hulme (who all started ahead of him), Hill managed to finish the race in 4th position, 4 minutes behind race winner Jacky Ickx.

Scalextric Legends Lotus 72 Gunston 1974, Ian Scheckter. Team Gunston was a name used by Rhodesian racing driver John Love to enter his own cars in Formula One and sports car racing in South Africa between 1962 and 1975. He also entered cars under his own name, i.e. John Love. Commonly the vehicles were entered for Love himself, but he also provided cars for a number of other drivers during the period. In 1974 Team Gunston entered the South Africa GP held at Kyalami with drivers Ian Scheckter (Jody Scheckters elder brother) and Paddy Driver. After starting the race back in 22nd position Ian Scheckter managed to pull through the pack and after a few around him retired ended up finishing in 13th place.

Run to F1 rules and consisting of 50 laps, the 5th Race of Champions was held on 22nd March 1970 at the famous Brands Hatch circuit in Kent. Pete Lovely, behind the wheel of his Pete Lovely Volkswagen Inc. Lotus 49 started well and qualified in 12th position. However on this occasion success was not to be his, Lovely was involved in an accident on lap 12 and had to retire from the race.
