Airfix - BAe Sea Harrier FRS.1 - 1:48 (A05101)
First flown on the 21st August 1978, the Sea Harrier FRS1 was the Naval
version of the RAF's Harrier GR3 and the first of the V/STOL fighters to see
service with the Royal Navy.
The FRS-1 ("Figher, Reconnaissance,
Strike") served in the Falklands War with great distinction. It mainly
operated from aircraft carriers positioned within the conflict zone. Its
usage in the Falklands War was its most high-profile and importance success,
where it was the only fixed-wing fighter available to protect the British
Task Force. The Sea Harriers shot down 20 enemy aircraft during the conflict
with one loss to enemy fire. They were also used to launch ground attacks.
